The mod is easy.  This will give you 137-174mhz and 410-470mhz Tx/Rx.

1. disconnect power and antenna (like, you would'nt of done it already.)
2. open up the case by removing the screws and gently removing the cover and 
   unpluging the speaker.
3. locate and CUT the GREEN WIRE on the CONTROL BOARD ( the vertical board
   behind the control panel.
4. reassemble the radio.
5. RESET THE MICROPROCESSOR (so much for the memory!)

   (press and hold [D/M] & [REV] & [ENT] & turn the power on)

   (turn off the radio).

   (press and hold [SCAN] & [HOME] & turn on the radio - extended RX mod).

Subject: MOD Addition to FT8500 Yeasu

Please add this mod to your radio mod with Mike's.
I have added a line or two in addition to mikes mod for the operators
that program there FT 8500 with Computer Software.
After doing Mikes Mod the radio will not program VIA ADMS-2 software
without doing the added
steps I have added.. SEE BELOW

ADDED BELOW
* If reprogramming VIA ADMS-2 Software, you must <SEND> template from
radio to
  computer before Ft8500 will accept the reprogramming <REC> via
computer..
If you do not send template from radio the FT8500 will not accept the
freq from the computer,
This made me believe the mod above didnt work..
